A Love Story

I fell in love with making stained glass in 1997 when I took my first lesson. I learned how to draw a pattern, cut glass, grind the pieces, foil, and solder them together.

Solder is the key to beautiful, clean, professional work. It can not be rushed. In truth none of the process can be. From the pattern to washing and waxing the finished pieces, attention to detail and patience is key.

What is Stained Glass Made Of.

There are many different types of solder and glass, since I’m not teaching a class on it I’ll stick to what I use.

I use colored glass sheets. Glass comes in an enormous variety of colors, textures, and transparencies, red being the most expensive. Fun glass fact, red is expensive because it’s made with gold chloride!

I also use leaded solder and copper foil tape. The tape and solder hold it all together. There are even different liquid patinas I can use to change the silver solder to copper or black.
